Ethics Committee

The ACADIE-BATHURST Health Authority’s (ABHA) Ethics Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees. It provides consultation and evaluation services to the staff in the area of ethics policies and procedures. In addition to overseeing the ongoing integration of ethics across all functions of the ABHA, the Ethics Committee serves as a consultative forum on ethical issues and in special clinical cases. The Committee is responsible for promoting the values of the ABHA and for implementing the Living Will. The Ethics Committee also supports the development of training sessions and programs aimed at promoting ethics and raising awareness among staff, patients, and community members.

The Ethics Committee includes a multidisciplinary team made up of members appointed by the Board of Trustees, upon consultation with the people in charge of the various disciplines. The Committee includes:

The President and Chief Executive Officer, or his authorized agent, attends all of the meetings as a non-voting member. The Committee’s term of appointment is two or three years; it is only renewable up to a maximum of six years to ensure continuity and ongoing progress.

The Ethics Committee convenes at least six times a year and when necessary.
