June 4, 2008 – The Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie presented a $65,000 cheque to the ACADIE-BATHURST Health Authority (ABHA). This cheque represents various pledges obtained within the community through fundraising activities organized as part of the foundation’s 2008 Annual Fundraising Campaign.
The ABHA used $55,000 of this money to purchase new equipment for the Tracadie-Sheila Hospital. In addition, $10,000 will be used to improve services at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.
The total cost of equipment for the Tracadie-Sheila Hospital was estimated at $100,000. In addition to the foundation’s $65,000 financial contribution, the ABHA is committed to provide $35,000 as part of this project. The new equipment will help to improve services in nine sectors including Medicine/Pediatrics, Ambulatory Care, 2nd North/Concentrated Care, Physiotherapy, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, Dialysis, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-language Pathology.
The goal of the 2008 Annual Campaign was to raise $65,000 and the final result announced during the unveiling of the new equipment was $102,346. "Today’s investment is a significant one and clearly reflects the community’s commitment to improve health services in our region and its confidence in staff of the Tracadie-Sheila Hospital," said Mr. René Chiasson, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie, during the unveiling ceremony.
For his part, Mr. Stéphane Legacy, Acting CEO of the ABHA, went on to thank the foundation and everyone involved in the campaign: "The Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie has shown, yet again, its commitment to improve health care services in our region. I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Campaign Committee and the citizens of Tracadie Sheila and surrounding areas for their unwavering support."
During her speech, Ms. Odette Robichaud, Director of the Tracadie-Sheila Hospital, said that the staff members were extremely happy to have such high-tech equipment at their disposal: "Clearly, this new equipment will make a significant difference in the quality of patient care provided in our facility. Positive impacts will be felt in various areas, including diagnosis, treatment and patient comfort."
The cheque presentation ceremony and the unveiling ceremony for the new equipment took place today in the presence of several dignitaries.
