Several years ago, the ACADIE-BATHURST Health Authority determined that there was a need for a facility that would be located at a reasonable distance from the Chaleur Regional Hospital in order to offer accommodations to patients and their families.
A project of this magnitude involved considerable cost, and the Department of Health does not fund this type of project.
Thus, the Health Authority had to find another source of financing. To this end, the ACADIE-BATHURST Health Authority approached United Commercial Travelers, Bathurst Council 827, in July 1995, to solicit financial support.
In February 1996, UCT announced that it would provide $475,000 to construct the UCT Pavilion.
Construction began in October 1996 and was completed in April 1997. The Pavilion was officially opened in May 1997.
Although UCT organizations have been around for nearly 100 years, the Bathurst Council 827 was only founded in 1958. In 1966, the Atlantic provinces had 37 councils, with Council 827 counting the most members, at 430.
UCT is a fraternal organization initially created to help commercial travelers and their families. Today, the organization's main goal is to lessen the burden of those in need.
The UCT Pavilion has twelve rooms, two of which are wheelchair accessible. Each room has two single beds and a bathroom.
Other amenities available at the UCT Pavilion include a kitchenette and a lounge, equipped with a television and sound system. The facility is located only a short walking distance from Chaleur Regional Hospital.
The cost is $10 per night for a person who has been discharged from the Chaleur Regional Hospital but who cannot return home immediately.
The cost is $10 per night for a person who must be hospitalized or undergo surgery, treatment, tests, etc. the next day at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.
The cost is $25 per night for a family member of a patient hospitalized at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.
Unfortunately, rooms cannot be reserved at the UCT Pavilion. Registration is strictly on a first come, first-served basis.
To register Monday to Friday (except holidays), between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., report to the Accounts Office at the Chaleur Regional Hospital; at all other times, report to the Patient Reception Desk at the hospital.
For information during normal business hours, please call 544-3247 (Accounts Office); at any other time, please call 544-2434 (Patient Reception Desk).
The UCT Pavilion is intended for immediate family members of hospitalized patients, as well as patients waiting to be admitted to the Chaleur Regional Hospital. Patients who have been discharged but who cannot, for one reason or another, immediately return home can also stay at the Pavilion. Patients who must undergo surgery, treatment, tests, etc. can also stay at the UCT Pavilion. Please note that no treatment or medical services are provided at the UCT Pavilion.
